how to join

Not have a supervisory driver and/or vehicle.
Have completed at least 3 professional driving lessons in the last 5 months.
Be experiencing financial hardship or receiving income support, making it hard to afford lessons.
Be able to commit to at least 2-3 hours per week with our volunteer mentors, including weekdays.
Attend all mentoring sessions at our Cairns city office.
Hold a current QLD Learners Licence.

You can only sign up through this website to join the program. Calls will be redirected to our website. When you complete the registration on the website, you must tell us clearly how you meet the eligibility requirements listed above. This is our way of ensuring you are not missed and that expressions of interest are recorded for our funding requirements.
Once you have registered, we will contact you within 7 working days to discuss your registration. If we do not hear back from you or if you do not respond to calls or messages, we will send you a notice advising that your expression of interest has been removed. If this happens, you will need to reapply.
Our volunteer mentors do not have dual controls in their vehicles, so it’s important that you already have some basic driving skills. If we feel you’re not quite ready, we’ll provide a personalised plan to help you build those skills before joining the program. Please note that our volunteers are not professional driving instructors. They are volunteers who give their time to help you practice. If you want to improve your skills further, we recommend seeing a professional driving instructor.
Although the program is free, it enforces strict rules to prioritise safety and minimise risks.
We cannot currently assist school students with their supervised hours. This is due to many of our volunteers being available only during weekdays. Any updates will be posted here on the website.
